Axe Grinding Part I
Today I managed to arrange some time for posting this blog. This is about songs with awesome guitar sound to them. So, in no particular order, here are the songs and brief descriptions:

- Beyond The Embrace - Fleshengine Breakdown
This song has classical guitar riffing as well as some awesome thrash riffs. Just listen to the opener and you'll see what I mean. Go 'n get it if you don't already have it!
- Edguy - Under The Moon
I don't like powermetal riffing that much, but this song is annihilating. It's opener is tearing, a bit distorted thrasher. It gives me the chills everytime I listen to it. Some serious axe grinding. Must-have.
- Arch Enemy - Seed Of Hate
Ever heard of Amott brothers? They play in Arch Enemy, and boy, do they play well. Dual guitar races and riffing is just stopping. You gotta listen to it for yourself. The other brother (cool sentence :D) riffs fast as the another throws out some thrashing riffs and lets them play for some time.
- Arch Enemy - The Immortal
Read the above post. This one has a killer solo at 2:00, fast "fretting" versus slow, powerful riffing. Awesome.
- Almost Every Older In Flames-song
They have it all. Melodic verses, dual guitar leads and races, inventive solos, fast tempo changes... Just stunning. All-around guitar playing.
- Trivium - Pillar Of Serpents
This one hasn't got any solos or any of that stuff but the constant riffage drives the song ahead like a massive tank. Powerful and ripping (thrash)guitar work.
- Shadows Fall - Crushing Belial
This song's guitar sound is like a punch in the face. Thrashing, loud and fast enough to sound very good. This one is a must-have.
- God Forbid - Antihero
Dual guitars, brothers playing. Remind you of something? Ah yes, the Amott brothers. But no, meet Antihero's Dynamic Duo, Dallas and Doc Coyle. Fast backfire playing style mixed with melodies. What do you have? A winner. LISTEN TO IT.
- Children Of Bodom - Needled 24/7
Gotta list this one too, although I am not the biggest fan of the band. But it's from Finland as I am. Alexi Laiho's guitar playing is amazing. Fast, varying, melodic, thrashing, loud. And did I say fast? Coz it's fast, believe me. And very technical.
- Danko Jones - Woogie Boogie
What The Hell, says you, this is not metal! Ay, it's not. But does it have to be, as long as the song is awesome? The song title describes the song best: Hard, boogie rock with sluggy and catchy rhythm. Must-have.
- Behemoth - No Sympathy For Fools
This one's for you, Black Fairy, a Polish band :) I don't know why I like this song's guitar sound. It's just pulverizing and shredding and it gives the already brutal sound the final blow. This song is just about as subtle and gentle as the Schwerer Gustaf cannon.
- Arch Enemy - Dead Bury Their Dead
Have I heard this riff somewhere else? Maybe I have, but let's forget that. The opener riff KILLS. I could play it over and over and over for days. I can't describe it well enough, get your boots on soldier and quick march to the nearest record store!
Alright kids, this is all I had time today. Catch you later with some more guitar slaying songs. And the Best Of- list for drum blast songs. Over and out.
